Itinerary

When you hear that someone is hiking in the Alps, you usually thinks of Switzerland, Austria or the Dolomites. Nevertheless, the Julian Alps are just as impressive. Julian Alps Hiking Trail in the Slovenian Alps is a new and different experience.

This is a hike along the most beautiful peaks and valleys of the Julian Alps and is of difficult level. However, if you don’t like to hike as much, in our offer you can find a vast variety of different hikes of different levels in Slovenia and the rest of the Balkans.

Day 1: ARRIVAL IN BLED

Arrival to Bled, a world-famous alpine town, situated on the banks of a beautiful glacial lake of the same name, with a church island. The Bled Castle sitting on a high cliff which rises above the water offers amazing views of the lake and the mountain peaks in the background. Before the start of the Julian Alps Hiking Trail, our representative will meet with you to give you all the details about the self-guided tour.  Accommodation in 4* hotel.

Day 2: BLED – POKLJUKA PLATEAU

Stage duration: approx. 14 km in 6 hours (difficult level), Ascent: 710 m; Descent: 640 m
A short drive to the starting point: the summit of the Pokljuka Plateau (1280 m), the starting point for many hiking trails in the Julian Alps. The warm-up hike takes you through mountain pastures and through dense fir forests to the Blejska koča refuge. There you can have a typical hiker’s lunch. In the afternoon, walk to the Pokljuka Biathlon Center on a scenic route that will give you great views of the Karawanks Mountain Range, the Pokljuka Plateau, the Krma Valley and the Bohinj Mountains. Accommodation in Pokljuka (3* hotel).

Julian Alps Hiking Trail: Hiking to Mt Triglav & Mountain Hut at the Triglav Lakes (Slovenia)

Day 3: POKLJUKA – PLANIKA HUT

Stage duration: 12 km in 7 hours (difficult level), Ascent: 1140 m; Descent: 110 m
After breakfast the trail will take you into the heart of Triglav National Park and the Julian Alps. The trail slowly ascends to the Vodnikov Dom refuge and continues towards your day’s final destination the Planika refuge, just below Mt. Triglav – the highest mountain in Slovenia (2864 m). Accommodation at the Planika mountain hut (dormitory).

Today your main luggage will be picked up from the hotel in Pokljuka and safely stored in our office in Bled until you reach Bohinj at the end of the 6 day hike. You will not have access to it until then, so make sure you have everything you need in your backpack.

Day 4: PLANIKA HUT – TRIGLAV LAKES HUT

Stage distance: 11 km in 6 hours (difficult level), Ascent: 230 m; Descent: 910 m
After breakfast, start the walk through the Hribarice Pass (2358 m) towards the Koča pri Triglavskih jezerih refuge. On the way to the refuge, you can stop and admire the beauty of one of the seven lakes of the Triglav National Park, Zeleno Jezero (Green Lake), whose name derives from the high content of algae that paint the lake in a beautiful green color. Later you can enjoy the beautiful view of the rest of Dolina Triglavskih Jezer (The Valley of the Lakes of Triglav). Accommodation at the Koča pri Triglavskih jezerih mountain hut (dormitory).
