This is an active week-long easy level itinerary. Holidays in the Alps in summer is accessible to everyone. Besides the Julian Alps the tour includes all the best of Slovenia. A local guide will show you the capital of Ljubljana, Bled with the Vintgar gorge and much more. For several days you will enjoy light walks through the Triglav National Park in the Julian Alps.
Day 1 (Saturday): ARRIVAL TO BLED
Arrival at Ljubljana airport and transfer to the hotel in the pretty alpine village of Bled. Accommodation in Bled.
Day 2 (Sunday): BLED – VINTGAR GORGE – BLED
Route length: 5,7 km (circular); Elevation: approx. 100 m
Time to do the first hike of the tour. You will visit the Vintgar Gorge, an impressive canyon near Bled. This Slovenia’s first tourist gorge was excavated by the Radovna River and has a beautiful walkway that will take your breath away. In the afternoon you will return to Bled and climb up the fairly-tale Bled Castle, to enjoy the best view of the lake and the Gorenjska region. In the museum exhibition you will learn about the historical development of Bled, its culture and population. Later, you will enjoy a ride on the typical boat pletna that will take you to the island of Bled. In the evening we recommend experimenting with different types of local desserts like potica or kremsnita. Dinner and accommodation in Bled.
Day 3 (Monday): BLED – ZAJAMNIKI – USKOVNICA – BOHINJ – KRANJSKA GORA
Route length: 12,5 km (circular); Descent: 67 m; Ascent: 190 m;
After breakfast, transfer to the Pokljuka Plateau, the heart of the Triglav National Park. From there you will visit the bucolic shepherd village of Zajamniki, one of the most photographed locations in the region. The tour continues to Uskovnica, where you can try typical local dishes. In the afternoon transfer to the Bohinj Lake, the largest lake in Slovenia. In summer, the water temperature rises to 22° C and offers great refreshment. Don’t forget to bring swimsuits. Later, transfer back to Bled. Dinner and accommodation in Bled.
Day 4 (Tuesday): KRANJSKA GORA – TAMAR VALLEY – KRANJSKA GORA
Route length: 7,5 km (circular); Elevation: approx. 190 m
Transfer to Planica Valley, the famous Nordic ski centre with the second-largest ski-jump in the world. It was here that ski jumpers first pass the magical mark of 200 meters. The valley is surrounded by high peaks of the Julian Alps which serve as a great background for a pleasant walk. The light trail leads to Tamar, another picturesque alpine valley where we will enjoy lunch at the small mountain hut. On our way back to Kranjska Gora, we will make a short stop at the beautiful Zelenci natural reserve, spring of the Sava Dolinka River. Rest of the day is free to enjoy time in Kranjska Gora. You can relax at the crystal-clear Jasna Lake or rent a bike and explore the surrounding areas. Dinner and accommodation in Kranjska Gora.

Day 5 (Wednesday): KRANJSKA GORA – PERIČNIK WATERFALL – KRANJSKA GORA
Route length: 9 km (circular); Elevation: approx. 110 m
Transfer to the alpine village of Mojstrana which sits at the entrance to the Vrata Valley. It is the largest glacial redesigned valley on the north side of the Julian Alps, stretching to the foot of the Triglav North Wall. We will walk the first part of the valley, following the crystal clear creek of Triglavska Bistrica until we reach the gorgeous Peričnik Waterfall. With its 52 meters, Peričnik is one of the highest waterfalls in Slovenia and protected as a natural heritage. Return to Mojstrana, where you can peek into the Slovenian Alpine Museum, a unique Alpine and mountaineering centre. Dinner and accommodation in Kranjska Gora.
Day 6 (Thursday): KRANJSKA GORA – VELIKA PLANINA – LJUBLJANA
Route length: 10 km (circular); Ascent: 330 m;
After breakfast, your holidays in the Alps in summer continue with a hike to Velika Planina, the largest Alpine pasture population in Europe. In about two hours of moderate climbing, we will get to the unique shepherds village and admire its traditional architecture. You will learn all about lives in mountain pastures and have the opportunity to try or even buy typical local cheese called trnič. Legend has it, eating this cheese will make you fall in love. Transfer to Ljubljana for overnight.
Day 7 (Friday): LJUBLJANA – ŠKOCJAN CAVES – LJUBLJANA
After breakfast, your guide will take you on a walking tour of Ljubljana. Stroll through the picturesque historic centre full of elegant building from different time periods and cross Ljubljana’s numerous bridges that connect both banks of the lovely Ljubljanica River. To sum it up, climb the hill above the city centre and enjoy the wonderful views from from Ljublajan Castle. After lunch, we will departure to the Karst region and visit the UNESCO-protected Skocjan Caves. During a 2-hour walk through the largest known underground canyon in the world, we will pass several waterfalls and numerous amazing karst formations. Return to Ljubljana.
Day 8 (Saturday): LJUBLJANA – END OF HOLIDAYS IN THE ALPS IN SUMMER
Breakfast. Transfer to Ljubljana airport. End of holidays in the Alps in summer.
