DAY 1: Arrival to KRANJSKA GORA
We are starting our trip in the alpine town of Kranjska Gora, which transforms into a popular
ski resort for the winter. Every year Kranjska Gora hosts FIS Apline Skiing World Cup, attracting visitors from all over the
world. Every other season this is a great place for cyclists and hikers with
many routes for all levels. Accommodation in Kranjska Gora.
DAY 2: KRANJSKA GORA – BLED (approx. 40 km)
After breakfast we will start with the bike tour by
following the trail to Radovna valley.
While cycling through the green countryside we will pass significant WWII
points of interest and many traditional farms. We will take a break at one of
them and treat ourselves with a delicious traditional meal. After the break
we’ll visit the spectacular Vintgar
gorge caved out by Radovna River, which was discovered by coincidence in
1891. To enable public access many wooden bridges were placed in the gorge
allowing everyone to enjoy its beauties. Continuing to Bled for overnight.
DAY 3: BLED – KRANJ (approx. 40 km)
After breakfast you will have free time to explore Bled and its glacial lake with the island
and the church in the middle. You have several options: take a walk through
Bled or around the lake, take a boat to the island and ring the wishing bell in
the church on the island, climb up to the castle and enjoy the beautiful view
or choose any of the other activities offered in Bled. You can also sit down in
one of the cafes and try the famous dessert kremšnita. Leaving Bled
behind and continuing to Radovljica,
where you can peek into the interesting beekeeping
museum or just take a relaxing stroll through the old part of the town.
Later we will pass numerous typical Slovenian towns and finishing in Kranj, a medieval city with underground
tunnels. Accommodation in Kranj.
DAY 4: KRANJ – LJUBLJANA (approx. 25km to the hotel – 30 km to the city center)
After breakfast we’ll take off to Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. In Ljubljana we will visit the old town with a mixture of baroque building,
art nouveau and architectural elements by famous architect Jože Plečnik. From Ljubljana
Castle you can admire the view over Ljubljana, and on a sunny day you can
see up to the Julian Alps. In the evening go for a drink in one of the bars
along the banks of Ljubljanica River
or just stroll through the illuminated capital. Accommodation in Ljubljana.
DAY 5: LJUBLJANA – HILLS OF LJUBLJANA (or day for rest)
After breakfast we’ll take a tour of Ljubljana with a local guide. In the afternoon optional
trip to the greens hills west of Ljubljana which offer spectacular views of Ljubljana Basin. Return to Ljubljana
DAY 6: LJUBLJANA – KRIM – RAKITNA (approx. 35 km)
After breakfast we will cycle through the mash area south
of Ljubljana called Barje. This
swamp is a protected ecosystem with diverse flora and fauna. After getting to
the village of Podpeč, we will hike
to the Rakitna plateau and if there
is any energy left in the afternoon, we can also climb Krim. Accommodation in Krim/Rakitna area.
DAY 7: RAKITNA – CERKNICA – RAKOV ŠKOCIJAN – POSTOJNA (approx. 35km)
Breakfast. The route will take us to Cerknica with the largest, but not permanent lake in Slovenia. From
there we’ll continue through the Rakov Škocjan
Reginal Park with incredible karstic structures. Take time to observe this
wonderful karstic nature and its characteristics as you bike pass them. In the
afternoon we’ll arrive to Postojna
and (if there’s enough time) visit its famous cave. Accommodation in Postojna.
DAY 8: POSTOJNA – PPREDJAMA – (LIPICA) – DIVAČA (approx. 45km + detour to Lipica 18km)
If we didn’t manage to visit the Postojna cave the day before, we
can do it after breakfast. Alternatively we’ll cycle to the nearby Predjama castle located on a 123
meter high cliff. It belonged to the Baron Erazem Lueguer who was attacking the caravan traders on the important route connecting Vienna
and Trieste. According to the
legend he died violently in the castle after being betrayed by one of his
servants. In the afternoon we will reach Divača, where we’ll spend
the night. If you want, you can visit the famous Lipica stud farm, home of the
world-renowned Lipizzaner horses. The Lipizzaner event and the guided
tour will definitely impress you.
DAY 9: DIVAČA – KOPER – STRUNJAN (approx. 50km)
The last stage of our bike route will take us to the Adriatic coast via two optional routes. The first one leads to the Italian city of Trieste, an important port at the time
of the Habsburg Monarchy (optional guided city tour). The second is winding
through picturesque Slovenian villages
along the Slovenian coast. Accommodation in Slovenian Istria.
DAY 10: END OF TRIP
On the last day of the trip enjoy swimming in the Adriatic Sea before going home. We can
organize transfers to the nearby airports or other stations of public traffic.
